We want you to stay safe. These clamps are strong, but steel is heavy. Follow these rules:
- Hardness Limit: These clamps are made for hot-rolled steel with a Brinell Hardness under 300. If you are lifting super-hard steel, call us first.
- Clean Surface: Make sure the steel plate doesn’t have thick mill scale, ice, or oil. The jaw needs to touch the bare metal. If the surface is slippery, the clamp might slide.
- Use Pairs for Horizontal Lifting: If you are lifting a plate flat (horizontal), you MUST use two clamps. Better yet, use a spreader bar to keep the angle right. Never lift a wide plate horizontally with just one clamp.
- Polished Metal: If you are lifting stainless steel or copper, use the non-marring (NM) model. Standard jaws might scratch the finish.
