RENFROE 4 Ton Steel Plate Lifting Clamp – Heavy Duty Vertical & Horizontal Lifting Tool (JP & TL Series)

Description

Are You Risking Your Team’s Safety Every Time You Lift a Steel Plate?

Lifting heavy steel is not a game. One slip can mean broken equipment, damaged materials, or a trip to the hospital. You know the struggle. You have a warehouse full of steel plates, coils, or cable machinery parts that need moving. Using old chains or generic clamps is slow and scary. The load shifts, the grip slips, and your workers have to guide the load by hand. That is dangerous. You need a tool that grabs tight and holds on until you say let go. You need a clamp that works as hard as your team does.

The Solution: A Clamp That “Cams In” When the Weight Hits

This is not just a piece of metal. The RENFROE 4 Ton Lifting Clamp is a smart tool. It uses a spring-loaded design. What does that mean for you? It means the moment the weight pulls on the shackle, the pivoting cam jaw locks into the steel. It bites down harder the heavier it gets. You don’t have to worry about it loosening mid-air.Whether you are turning a plate from horizontal to vertical, or flipping it 180 degrees, this clamp stays put. It handles hot-rolled steel with ease. If you work with cable manufacturing equipment, you know precision matters. This clamp gives you that precision without the headache. It is built by J.C. Renfroe & Sons. They have over 70 years of experience making clamps that don’t fail. This is American engineering built to last.

How It Makes Your Job Easier (And Safer)

You don’t have time for complicated setups. This tool simplifies hard jobs.##### One-Man OperationYou don’t need two people to set this up. The spring-open and closed position lets one worker handle multiple clamps. You attach it, lift it, and move it. Simple as that.##### No Surface DamageWorried about scratching your steel? We have models for that. If you handle polished stainless steel or aluminum, you can get the non-marring version. It has smooth jaws that grip without leaving marks. For standard hot-rolled steel, the serrated jaws give a rock-solid grip.##### Side Pulling CapabilitySometimes you have to pull from the side. The JP model lets you side-load the shackle. At 30 degrees, you get 100% power. Even at 45 degrees, you still have 75% capacity. That flexibility saves you from having to reposition your crane constantly.

Technical Specifications: What You Get

We know you need numbers to make a decision. Here is the breakdown for the JP-04.00-A and TL-04.00-A 4-Ton models. These are the workhorses of the industry.##### Model JP-04.00-A (Vertical Lifting with Side Pull)This is the king of versatility. It is perfect for single plate lifting.

  • Capacity: 4 Tons (8,000 lbs)
  • Plate Thickness Range: 3/16 inch to 1-1/4 inch
  • Jaw Opening (Max D): Adjusts based on thickness (up to 12 inches for thicker plates)
  • Weight: Approx. 50 lbs
  • Dimensions:
    • Length: 20 1/8 inches
    • Width: 4 3/8 inches
    • Height: 3 1/4 inches
  • Safety Feature: Push-button auxiliary lock for extra security.
  • Finish: Painted yellow for high visibility on the job site.

##### Model TL-04.00-A (Standard Vertical Lifting)This model is a beast for pure vertical lifting.

  • Capacity: 4 Tons (8,000 lbs)
  • Plate Thickness Range: 3/16 inch to 1-1/4 inch
  • Jaw Opening (Max D): Up to 11 3/4 inches
  • Weight: Approx. 36 to 43 lbs (varies by jaw opening)
  • Dimensions:
    • Length: 17 5/8 inches
    • Width: 4 inches
    • Height: 3 inches
  • Safety Feature: Positive “Lock-Closed” mechanism. It will not open accidentally.

##### Model SX-04.00-A (For Angles and Beams)If you are lifting angles or beams, look at the SX series.

  • Capacity: 4 Tons
  • Clamp Height: 19.625 inches
  • Jaw Length: 4.75 inches
  • Max Plate Thickness: 1.5 inches
  • Min Plate Thickness: 0.5 inches
  • Special Feature: “Lock-Open / Lock-Closed” technology. You can lock the clamp in the open position so it doesn’t snag when you move it to the next plate.

Where to Use This Clamp

This isn’t just for one job. It fits almost anywhere heavy steel moves.##### Steel Service Centers & WarehousesMoving coils to the processing line? Stacking plates for shipping? This clamp speeds up the process. You can flip plates vertically to slot them into racks safely.##### Cable & Wire Production FacilitiesYou handle heavy steel frames and machinery guards. Use the clamp to install heavy covers on your extrusion lines. It keeps your production line running without damaging the expensive equipment surfaces.##### Construction & Steel ErectionLifting beams, columns, and plates to the upper floors. The side-pull feature is a lifesaver when working in tight city spaces where you can’t always get a crane directly overhead.##### Manufacturing & FabricationFeeding large steel sheets into rolling machines or press brakes. The clamp holds the sheet steady so your operators can focus on alignment, not holding the weight.

Important Safety Rules (Read This!)

We want you to stay safe. These clamps are strong, but steel is heavy. Follow these rules:

  1. Hardness Limit: These clamps are made for hot-rolled steel with a Brinell Hardness under 300. If you are lifting super-hard steel, call us first.
  2. Clean Surface: Make sure the steel plate doesn’t have thick mill scale, ice, or oil. The jaw needs to touch the bare metal. If the surface is slippery, the clamp might slide.
  3. Use Pairs for Horizontal Lifting: If you are lifting a plate flat (horizontal), you MUST use two clamps. Better yet, use a spreader bar to keep the angle right. Never lift a wide plate horizontally with just one clamp.
  4. Polished Metal: If you are lifting stainless steel or copper, use the non-marring (NM) model. Standard jaws might scratch the finish.
