German Standard TRONIC LIYY 5-Core 0.5mm² Flexible Control Cable – PVC Insulated Signal & Power Wire for Machinery and Automation

Description

Tired of cables that crack, stiffen up, or cause signal errors in your machines?

You know the frustration. You install a new cable in a control panel or a robotic arm. It looks good at first. But after a few weeks of movement, the jacket starts to crack. Or the wire is so stiff you can’t route it through tight spaces. Worst of all, you get signal interference that shuts down your production line. You need a cable that moves freely, resists oil and chemicals, and carries power and signals reliably without breaking the bank. This is why we built our German-standard TRONIC LIYY 5-core 0.5mm² cable. It is not just a wire. It is a flexible, tough, and reliable solution for real-world industrial environments. We designed it for the guys on the factory floor who need quality without the hype.

What exactly is TRONIC LIYY 5-Core 0.5mm² Cable?

This cable is a multi-purpose power and signal line. It is built to German VDE standards. The “LIYY” name tells you it is a flexible data and control cable. The “5-core” part means it has five separate wires inside one outer jacket. The “0.5mm²” tells you the size of each copper wire. This size is the sweet spot. It is thick enough to carry power for small motors and lights, but thin enough to stay flexible. It is also perfect for carrying low-voltage signals like sensor data or control commands. The core material is bare copper. We strand it finely. This means it is not one solid stick of metal. It is made of many tiny wires twisted together. This makes it super flexible. You can bend it, twist it, and flex it thousands of times without it snapping. The insulation is special PVC plastic. It resists oil, grease, and weak acids. This is crucial in factories where machines leak fluids. The outer sheath is gray PVC. It is tough against abrasion but smooth enough to pull through cable chains (drag chains).

Technical Specifications: The Numbers That Matter

We believe in transparency. Here are the hard facts about this 5-core 0.5mm² LIYY cable:

Electrical Ratings
  • Voltage: Rated for 300/500 Volts. Do not use this for high-power main lines. It is for control circuits and signals.
  • Test Voltage: 4000V AC. This shows how strong the insulation is.
  • Conductor Resistance: Max 39 Ohms per kilometer. This means very little energy is lost as heat.
  • Current Rating: Approximately 9 Amps per core (in free air). Always check local codes for your specific load.
Physical Properties
  • Conductor Construction: Class 5 fine-stranded copper (DIN VDE 0295 / IEC 60228).
  • Core Insulation: PVC compound TI2 (DIN VDE 0207-363-3).
  • Outer Sheath: PVC compound TM2 (DIN VDE 0207-363-4-1).
  • Sheath Color: Standard Gray (RAL 7001). We can do black for specific orders.
  • Markings: The cable is marked with meters and core numbers.
  • Weight: About 63 kg per kilometer.
  • Outer Diameter: Approximately 6.2mm (varies slightly by manufacturer).
Performance Limits
  • Temperature (Fixed): -40°C to +80°C. It handles cold warehouses and hot motor areas.
  • Temperature (Flexing): -5°C to +70°C. Don’t force it to bend when frozen solid.
  • Bending Radius (Fixed): 4 times the cable diameter (approx. 25mm).
  • Bending Radius (Flexing): 7.5 times the cable diameter (approx. 47mm). Do not kink it tighter than this or you will damage the core.
  • Capacitance: Approx 150 pF/m. This is low enough for clean signal transmission.
  • Impedance: Approx 78 Ohms.
Safety & Standards
  • Flame Retardant: Meets IEC 60332-1-2. It does not spread fire easily.
  • Halogen Free: No. Standard LIYY contains PVC which releases chlorine gas if burned. If you need Halogen-Free (LSZH), look for specific variants.
  • Oil Resistance: Yes, largely resistant to oil and chemicals.
  • EMC: Unscreened. If you need shielding against electromagnetic noise, you need the LIYCY (screened) version.

Why choose this German-Standard Cable over generic imports?

You can buy cheap cable anywhere. But “cheap” often means “inflexible” or “poorly insulated.” Here is why this specific cable is better:

1. True Flexibility (Class 5 Stranding)

Many cheap cables use Class 1 or Class 2 copper. It is stiff. Our cable uses Class 5. This means the copper is made of many tiny strands. You can flex this cable millions of times in a drag chain without the copper fatiguing and breaking. It saves you money on replacements.

2. Color Coding (DIN 47100)

We follow the DIN 47100 standard for colors. You get distinct colors for each core (Blue, Brown, Black, Grey, etc.). This makes wiring control panels easy. You don’t have to guess which wire is which. It speeds up installation and reduces mistakes.

3. Oil and Chemical Resistance

Factory floors are dirty. Hydraulic oil, cutting fluid, and cleaning agents eat through cheap plastic. The special PVC compound (TM2) used in the outer sheath of TRONIC LIYY is formulated to resist these substances. The jacket won’t get sticky or crumble when it touches oil.

4. Space Saving

The outer diameter is very small for a 5-core cable. This is great for modern machinery where space is tight. You can fit more cables in a small conduit or cable carrier.

5. Consistent Quality

German VDE standards are strict. The wall thickness of the insulation is consistent. Cheap cables often have thin spots that cause short circuits. With this cable, you get uniform quality from the first meter to the last.

Where should you use this 5-Core 0.5mm² Cable?

This cable is a workhorse. It fits many scenarios. Here are the top places we see it used:

Industrial Automation & Robotics

Connect servo motors, sensors, and PLCs. The flexibility is perfect for robot arms that move constantly.

CNC Machines and Tooling

Use it for control signals, limit switches, and solenoid valves. It fits well inside cable chains.

Conveyor Systems

Power the small motors of roller conveyors and carry sensor signals back to the control box.

Measurement and Control Equipment

In labs or testing rigs, you need clean signals. The low interference of this cable makes it great for precision equipment.

HVAC and Building Management

Control fans, dampers, and thermostats. The flame-retardant jacket makes it safe for use inside walls (but not direct burial in concrete or outdoors).

Audio and Data (Low Frequency)

While not a dedicated audio cable, it works well for low-frequency data transmission and intercom systems in noisy industrial environments.

Important Installation Tips

To get the best life out of this cable, follow these simple rules:

  1. Don’t pull it too hard: Use a pulling grip on the conductor, not the insulation. Max tension is around 50 Newtons (approx 5kg) for short pulls.
  2. Respect the bend radius: If you bend it too sharp, the impedance changes and the signal gets noisy. Keep the curve smooth.
  3. Indoor use only: The PVC is not UV stable. If you put this in direct sunlight, it will crack in a few years. For outdoors, you need a UV-resistant PUR or PE jacket.
  4. Terminate properly: Use ferrules on the ends of the strands before screwing them into terminals. This keeps the fine strands from fraying.
  5. Separate high and low voltage: Don’t run this 500V cable right next to a 400V power cable. Keep them apart to avoid noise.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this cable shielded? No. The standard TRONIC LIYY is unscreened. If you have heavy interference from VFDs (Variable Frequency Drives) or welders, you should upgrade to the TRONIC-CY (LiY-CY) version which has a copper braid shield. Can I use this for 240V AC power?Yes. It is rated 500V. It is fine for 110V, 240V, or 480V control circuits. Just make sure the current (Amps) does not exceed the rating for the wire size.Is it waterproof? It is water-resistant, not waterproof. It is great for damp rooms and wet environments (IP65/67 rated connectors needed), but do not submerge it in water permanently unless it is in a protected conduit. What is the difference between LIYY and YY cable? They are very similar. LIYY is the German VDE designation. YY is often the British/BS EN 50525 designation. They are often interchangeable for general use, but LIYY has stricter testing for oil resistance and flexibility.
